How Duct Cleaning Benefits You and Your Home

Duct cleaning is the removal of any dust or debris from your duct work. Um, and its main benefit is improving your air quality uh overall. Over time, uh, stuff like dog fur, cat hair, dust, debris, construction materials accumulate inside of your duct work, uh, being pulled in through the return vents typically. So, every time you breathe uh, in and out um, you’re breathing in all those dust particles.
If you look out at a window when the sun is shining, you’ll see all the dust floating around. All of that is being filtered through your lungs first before it’s being filtered through your air filter. For any people that have asthma or allergies, this helps cut down on any of the dust and materials that could be causing those issues. Uh, helping to lower the amount of risk for you. Learn more

How We Clean Your Ducts | Step by step process

We carry a machine in, roughly the size of a shopping cart. It has a 50-foot long hose attached to it with a rotating brush head at the end of it. Once we’re inside your home, we come in and remove every single vent throughout the entire house — both the supplies and the returns.
Here’s how the process works:

  • We start upstairs, on the top floor, and run one vent at a time.
  • The brush head is pushed in, it spins around, and knocks everything loose.
  • The entire machine works as a large vacuum, sucking everything up through the hose.
  • Anything too large for the vacuum gets pushed down to the next level, which we then remove from the basement.

Duration and What you can expect during Air duct cleaning

Average duct cleaning time is roughly about 4 to 5 hours. Uh, so a lot of the time if there’s any tile work in the home, We are going to be finding tile in the duct work. Uh, other than that, lot amount of dust. Um, construction materials especially. Uh, decent amount of time we find mice inside of the duct work, um, which is not too fun, but having that removed means you no longer have to worry about that.

Who Benefits Most from Our Professional Duct Cleaning

Any home uh that has not had duct cleaning done prior to it could benefit from it, but especially if it’s a house 10 years or older, if there’s been prior occupants that had animals, anything that can be causing allergens. I typically recommend having your duct work cleaned once every 10 years, unless you have a major remodel.
Anytime there’s drywall work, all that dust is being kicked up and it goes straight through your returns into all your duct work and just coats them. Again, it may not be something you always think about, but duct cleaning could improve the air quality and comfort of your home.

Air Duct Cleaning Process explained | thoroughly tested

We’re here to do your air duct cleaning. Okay, I just need to turn that off so we can get started. Right now, we’re going to prepare your furnace and then begin the process.

Preparing the Furnace and Coils

What I’m going to do first is get the coils ready so we can clean them out and make sure they’re not dirty. It’s important to keep your coils clean because it helps maintain proper airflow. Dirty coils can restrict airflow, cause your system to freeze up in the summer, and make your furnace less efficient.

Cleaning the Return Airs

Now we’re going to pull down the return airs. This allows us to run our hose and snake through the duct, giving it a deep cleaning. Just like we did on the bottom side, we’ll force air up to push out the dust, dirt, and debris. For this, we use what’s called a positive ball, which helps push contaminants forward.

Importance of Air Duct Cleaning

Whether your home is old or new, cleaning your air ducts is vital to your health. Newly constructed homes often contain sheetrock dust, insulation, and other debris that block airflow. According to the EPA, a buildup of less than half an inch of dirt on a heating or cooling coil can decrease efficiency by 21%. Indoor air has been found to be up to 70% more polluted than outdoor air.

Health Risks of Dirty Ducts

Dirty duct systems are a major source of indoor air pollution. Every time your system runs, airborne contaminants are pulled into the ducts. Over time, this creates a breeding ground for mold, bacteria, dust mites, fungus, and other microbes. Cleaning the ducts helps relieve problems like allergies, asthma, headaches, odors, sneezing, sinus congestion, and respiratory infections.

Experience and Expertise

Since 2018, AirductCleaning-ATL has worked on both residential and commercial projects, including the airport expansion project, hospitals, schools, fire departments, prisons, and has partnered with restoration companies across Atlanta Georgia and across.

Cleaning the Fan and Coils Again

Next, we blow through the fan to remove dust and debris from the blades. This improves airflow and helps the fan spin faster. After that, we’ll clean the coils again, removing any leftover buildup.

Applying Coil Brite Cleaner

Here, he’s spraying a chemical called Coil Brite. It’s the same cleaner we use on coils, but we also use it on fresh air returns. Cooking, candles, and smoke often leave greasy buildup on returns, which traps dust. After scrubbing, we rinse them down and let them dry. Meanwhile, we spray the coils with the same cleaner to loosen sheetrock dust, dirt, and other household debris. After letting it sit, we brush off any remaining buildup.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Finally, we clean out the dryer vent. This is important because most house fires are caused by clogged dryer vents. When lint builds up, it can cause the dryer to overheat and start a fire.

Duct Cleaning: Before & After – Insights from Our Recently Completed Successful Project

Now we are going to show you the process start to finish of a duct cleaning project from central Downtown Client we worked for, along with before and after photos of what they were able to clean out of this particular home. You can hear me asking questions all throughout the process as they explain to me what they’re doing during the air duct cleaning. Thanks again to the crew for letting me tag along. I’ll let them take it from here to show a full duct cleaning job before and after, start to finish, including vent cleaning where needed. I try to get everything covered up and ready to go by the time you’re done taping so we can just start hauling everything, get everything ready, and get the vacuum on so we can get it cleaned out. At first, we can get the system back on because it’s supposed to be hot today.

Initial Steps and Preparation

The first thing we do when we get there is I just kind of let the homeowner know if there are any hidden vents around that we need to move, any furniture around, just let us know. We’ll move the furniture; they’re more than welcome to move it if they want to. We’ll help move it back if they want.
But I start down where the furnace is. I make sure I have some sheet metal ready to go so I can cover the equipment completely from the bottom, so there’s no possible damage to the coil or the blower wheel, or any of the electrical components in there.

  • I’ve also got my own trash filter that I’ve taped up to prevent any airflow from moving through to go into the return side of the system.
  • So anything that falls through and gets past the vacuum again is protecting the blower wheel and the electrical components.
  • It keeps it all from getting damaged by any dust or debris.

Cleaning the Returns

The returns are always the dirtiest of all of them. Usually, if they’re looking in their supply runs, especially the ones on the floor in the kitchen or the dining room, that’s where a lot of food falls in, and they’ll see all that in there. But if they have it hanging up on the ceiling, you’re not going to be able to see all the dust that’s up in there, but you’ll be able to see it when we get the vacuum in.

  • We’ve got two separate filters on it.
  • One of them catches all the bigger particles that would be in there.
  • The other one catches the little micro particles that we can’t even see with the naked eye, but it stacks up so much that you can start to see it on that.
  • You’ll also be able to see the new filter once it goes in and after we get done with the clean too.

Filters and Micro Particles

The teal-blue filter that I showed you first thing when we got started catches a bunch of little micro particles that we can’t see unless they’re gathered together. These particles make it through and get caught in the micro filter we use for air duct cleaning. That’s already quite a bit, and that’s just from the returns, which is why regular HVAC duct cleaning makes a difference.
This is halfway through the ductwork cleaning, but this is the worst of it. Supplies aren’t usually this bad; returns are always the worst when it comes to getting your system cleaned out during vent cleaning.

  • A lot of what we have in the vacuum is more of the wood shavings, like what we had in the returns.
  • The supply being a lot of flex duct doesn’t collect much other than drywall dust.
  • That’s where the filter changes a little bit in color. Instead of being the darker gray color, it’s kind of a lighter color now, thanks to all the drywall dust and everything that was able to get through this filter.

Cleaning the Trunk Lines and Final Collection

We just go from the farthest register all the way downstairs, working through the air duct cleaning step by step. We’re cleaning as we go downstairs, getting closer and closer. These are the trunk lines we focus on during ductwork cleaning, pushing everything towards the system itself, pushing it towards the vacuum. We go through each individual run, every supply, every return from top to bottom as part of our HVAC duct cleaning, and then we push everything from there into the main trunk of the system. From the main trunk, we pull it all into the vacuum. That’s where you get the buildup that we’ve got in the vacuum behind here. Usually, it’s our goal to get it to where that black piece meets—yeah, that’s where you’ll get most of the debris.
With all the debris that sits in the returns, sometimes it can get a little heavier for the vacuum to be able to get to it during vent cleaning.

So, that’s all sitting at the bottom until our residential air duct cleaning helps pull it loose.

  • We use our own trash filters that are taped up so nothing can get through them.
  • This helps keep the blower wheel clean from any of those big debris that go running through there.
  • When I get done with everything today, I have my own pocket shop vac that’ll get all that cleaned out.
  • That’s all the stuff we pushed from the top floor all the way down into the main trunk that we just cleaned out, pushing all the way into the vacuum as far as we could.

Some of it doesn’t make it to the vacuum; it’s a little tight squeeze, but this is the vacuum so far after cleaning the returns. You can see a bunch of little wood shavings and dust that’s up in there. Everything gets mixed in.

Best Air Duct Cleaning Tools | Best Air Duct Cleaning Equipment Review

If you’re searching for the best residential and light commercial air duct cleaning equipment, you’ve found the right solution. In this guide, we’ll explore what makes the Airduct Cleaning ATL 1000 XT System stand out from other air duct cleaning systems on the market.

This professional-grade system combines advanced technology and innovative features that are revolutionizing the air duct cleaning industry.

Why Choose the Airduct Cleaning ATL 1000 XT System?

The Airduct Cleaning ATL VX makes cleaning air ducts faster, easier, and more efficient. It uses a high-powered vacuum along with a rotary flexible cable that spins a Flex-Stend brush throughout the ductwork — effectively dislodging dust, pollen, dander, dirt, and debris.

The reverse sweeping action then carries these contaminants back through the vacuum hose for complete removal.

Unique Features That Make Airduct Cleaning ATL 1000 XT Stand Out

1. Separate Cable & Brush Design

Most air duct cleaning systems attach a brush directly to the vacuum hose. This can cause issues because:

  • Ductwork often has sharp twists and turns.
  • A stiff vacuum hose is hard to maneuver through such systems.

The Airduct Cleaning ATL VX solves this problem with a separate rotary flexible cable that spins the brush independently, while the vacuum hose follows behind.
Once the brush reaches the end of the duct, the technician reverses the spin to create a reverse sweeping action — pulling all contaminants back toward the vacuum hose for easy extraction.
This setup ensures maximum flexibility and superior cleaning performance.

2. Flex-Stend Brush Technology

The Flex-Stend brush system enhances dirt and debris removal with automatic size adjustment and precision design.

  • Brush Sizes Included:
    • Standard: For ducts 4″–18″ in size
    • Large: For ducts 18″–24″ in size
    • Dryer Vent: For dryer vents 3″–4″ in size
  • Features:
    • Precision-angled bristles create a reverse sweeping action for better debris removal.
    • Dual bristle design (on standard and large brushes) stabilizes the brush inside the duct.
    • Soft filament brushes ensure safe cleaning on all duct types.
    • Automatically self-adjusts to the duct size for consistent performance.

As shown in clear duct demonstrations, the brush automatically adapts to the duct diameter while sweeping dirt and debris back toward the vacuum hose for complete extraction.

The Result — Cleaner, Safer, and More Efficient Ducts

With its innovative separation system, flexible brush design, and reverse sweeping technology, the Airduct Cleaning ATL 1000 XT delivers a more thorough and efficient cleaning than conventional air duct systems.

Air duct cleaning is the thorough removal of dust and debris from your home’s supply and return ducts, registers, grilles, trunk lines, and air handler. A professional air duct cleaning service typically includes duct cleaning, air duct and vent cleaning, and HVAC duct cleaning. Depending on the system, we may also include ductwork cleaning of the blower compartment, plenum, and evaporator coil, and furnace duct cleaning services for heating systems. For larger homes, whole house air duct cleaning ensures every run and trunk line is addressed. If needed, we can extend to ventilation duct cleaning or full ventilation system cleaning in offices or light commercial spaces. In short, our air duct services are designed to restore clean airflow through the entire HVAC system.

The cost of air duct cleaning in Atlanta typically ranges between $300 and $600, depending on the size of the home and the number of vents. Some larger systems may cost more, but most professional duct cleaning in Atlanta, GA offers upfront pricing to avoid surprises.

The best air duct cleaning services in Atlanta, GA are those that use advanced equipment, trained technicians, and deliver consistent results. For many homeowners, airductcleaning-atl.com is a trusted choice for reliable duct cleaning service in Atlanta, GA, ensuring cleaner air and better HVAC performance.

On average, Atlanta air duct cleaning prices fall between $350 and $500 for most residential homes. Costs vary depending on duct size, contamination level, and whether you add air duct & dryer vent cleaning in Atlanta, GA as a combined service.

Yes, residential air duct & vent cleaning in Atlanta, GA is one of the most common services available. Homeowners benefit from improved indoor air quality, lower allergens, and better efficiency. Many families prefer a licensed duct cleaning service in Atlanta, GA for guaranteed results.

Be cautious of companies advertising free air duct cleaning in GA Atlanta, as many of these offers come with hidden charges or upsells. Instead, look for the most affordable air duct cleaners in Atlanta who provide transparent pricing and honest service.

You can find reviews for air duct cleaning GA Atlanta services on Google, Yelp, and local directories. Many customers share experiences about top 10 best duct cleaners in Atlanta to help homeowners choose trusted providers.

Homeowners schedule residential air duct cleaning to reduce dust on surfaces, help with allergens and pet dander, and improve airflow and comfort. A cleaner system can support better HVAC performance and may contribute to lower energy use. If odors are a concern, we offer optional air duct sanitizing/air duct sanitation using EPA‑registered duct disinfectant; in some cases a light air duct disinfectant fog can help with lingering smells after renovations, smoke exposure, or moisture issues. This specialized air duct care doesn’t replace mold remediation when needed, but it complements cleaning to leave ducts fresher and cleaner.

Most homes benefit from home air duct cleaning services every 2–4 years; sooner after remodeling, smoke events, water damage, or if you notice heavy dust from returns. A typical house duct cleaning service takes 2–5 hours for one system, longer for larger homes or multiple systems. Whole house duct cleaning includes every supply and return plus main trunks. You can usually turn the system back on immediately after air vent and duct cleaning. To maintain results, change filters on schedule (ask about the right MERV rating) and consider periodic air duct inspections if you have shedding pets, allergies, or high usage.

DIY steps—like replacing filters, vacuuming registers, and wiping accessible grilles—are helpful. But how to clean home air ducts fully (trunk lines, returns, and hidden runs) requires sealed negative‑air vacuums and pro tools; attempts to “clean out air ducts” with a shop vac can damage flex ducts or push dust deeper. If you’re wondering how to do air duct cleaning safely, the short answer is: basic surface cleaning is fine; deep cleaning is best left to air duct cleaning specialists/experts. When in doubt, search cleaning air ducts near me and compare providers who explain their process and show verification photos.

Yes. Our ac duct cleaning services cover ac vent cleaning, home ac vent cleaning, and ac ductwork cleaning. For cooling systems, air conditioning duct cleaning services often include the supply/return ducts and can extend to coil and blower cleaning when requested. For heating, we provide ducted heating vents cleaning and heat duct cleaning service; furnace duct cleaning services are available for gas or electric furnaces. We also offer air vent duct cleaning in rooms that collect dust faster (kitchens, high‑traffic areas) to keep airflow balanced and fresh.

Look for certified air duct cleaning professionals who are insured, provide written scope, and share before‑and‑after duct cleaning photos. Reputable companies offer professional air duct and HVAC cleaning services, not just quick vent sweeps. When vetting, search terms like air duct inspection near me or duct inspection services near me to find teams who diagnose issues first. For larger buildings, compare ductwork cleaning contractors, ventilation system cleaning companies, or ductwork cleaning companies near me that handle commercial systems. Read reviews, ask about guarantees, and favor a good duct cleaning company that explains the full process and answers questions transparently.
